Abstract

The causes of pain in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the projection of the masticatory muscles cannot be identified only through clinical examination. This review article highlights the relationship between pain symptoms and internal TMJ disorders, joint effusion, osteoarthritis, bone marrow edema, as determined by computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
