Features of Comorbid Depression in Children with Epilepsy

Abstract

Despite the literature on depression in epilepsy, this problem has not been practically studied in children. The aim of the study: to investigate the detection, assessment and treatment of depressive episodes in epilepsy in children aged 12-17 years. Material and methods. The study included 156 patients with epilepsy. The severity of depression was studied using the Hamilton Depression Scale and ICD-10. The age of the patients ranged from 12 to 17. Results. 68% of the examined patients were diagnosed with varying degrees of depression. Out of 106 patients, 83 suffered from mild depression; 21 patients had moderate depression and 2 patients had severe depression. Conclusion. Depression among children with epilepsy occurs with a relatively high frequency.
