Epidemiology and Risk Factors of Cerebral Stroke in Pregnancy and Childbirth

This article discusses one of the little-known problem of high-risk pregnancies - cerebral strokes. Despite the relative rarity of this complication, the problem is of great importance due to the severity and consequences of clinical manifestations. The main risk factors of cerebral stroke in pregnancy and the postpartum period are hypertension, diabetes, obesity, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcoholism, drug addiction. There are also specific "female" brain stroke risk factors: hormonal contraception, multiple pregnancies, pre-eclampsia and other. More rare causes of cerebral accidents are the connective tissue dysplasia, dissection of the arteries, hereditary diseases and metabolic disorders.
