One of the serious complications of diabetes, contributing to the development of disability and mortality, is diabetic polyneuropathy. Hyperglycemia causes disturbance of metabolic processes that trigger a cascade of metabolic disorders endoneural blood vessels, which in turn leads to disruption of supply of nerve fibers (hypoxia) and destructive changes of the latter. Adiponectin is a hormone gene associated with the development of type 2 diabetes and its complications. Identification of the genetic determinants of the development and progression of diabetic neuropathy will prevent the development of complications of type 2 diabetes - to diagnose and provide a personalized approach.
