Smoking Control as a Factor in the Formation of a Healthy Lifestyle among Children and Adults

Objective. To conduct a comprehensive analysis of the impact of systematic passive smoking on the level of physical development of schoolchildren, to give a proper assessment of the process of changing this or that anthropometric indicator of schoolchildren exposed and not exposed to passive smoking. Conducting thorough explanatory work among schoolchildren, both boys and girls, as well as their parents. Material and methods. In our republic, we did not have any modern anthropometric standards for children. Therefore, we decided to determine the measurements of height, weight and chest volume by dividing schoolchildren into two groups - exposed and not exposed to passive smoking. Each anthropometric indicator - weight, height and chest volume was analyzed separately and, if necessary, compared with others. We also used the questionnaire we compiled. The collected questionnaires of schoolchildren contained responses from a total of 3895 parents. All schoolchildren were divided into 2 groups: 818 schoolchildren whose parents were tobacco dependent and 1545 schoolchildren whose parents were tobacco independent. Results and discussion. The explanation covered all 818 tobacco-dependent families. In general, the height of boys in the 1st group, compared to the 2nd group, is 2.7-9.7 cm less, girls, respectively, by 2.8-5.8 cm. In particular, the weight of schoolchildren in the 1st group in some age groups was even greater than that of schoolchildren in the 2nd group - by 1.4-1.6 kg for boys, by 0.5-1.2 kg for girls. Schoolchildren exposed to passive smoking are not distinguished by physical activity, lead a sedentary lifestyle, as a result of which they gain weight. Conclusions. Unfortunately, it should be noted that very often smoking becomes a habit of poorly educated and low-income people. The liberal policy of the state regarding smoking and tobacco sales contributes to its widespread use in society. Doctors should screen pediatric patients and their smoking parents. We also made a proposal that schools should organize special lessons on the dangers of smoking.
